Type 5 indicator
Classified under ABNT ISO 11140-1, it reacts to all critical variables of the sterilization cycle. Passed steam and dry-heat testing.
Sterilization indicator + wet-load detection
Xterilis® is a Type 5 electronic indicator that also detects wet loads. Tap your phone and, over NFC, it tells you instantly whether the load was sterilized and whether it's dry.
The problem
When there's moisture inside a sterilized pack, the sterile barrier is compromised — and the material has to go back for reprocessing. The catch: it's usually noticed only at opening, often already in the operating room, with surgery on hold.
78%
of hospitals face wet loads at least once a month.
62%
of material reprocessing starts with a wet load — cost, delay and pressure on the team.
The solution
Tap your phone to the indicator and the app reads it over NFC: instantly, the sterilization status (ACCEPTED / REJECTED) and the load status (DRY / WET). No opening the pack, no reading colors.
The indicator's sensitivity catches condensation at minute levels — below what a visual inspection would notice. The wet load is flagged before it becomes a risk.
Technology & compliance
Classified under ABNT ISO 11140-1, it reacts to all critical variables of the sterilization cycle. Passed steam and dry-heat testing.
Less than 5% variation in reading capability over its service life — built to last.
Tested in a hospital environment and compliant with ISO 16328, the standard governing the annual qualification of sterilization processes.
Wet-load detection
Wet-load detection isn't standardized yet — so we developed our own method. We tested the indicator in boxes of various sizes, adding up to 10% of the volume in water vapor.
The indicator proved more sensitive than the configured parameters, catching condensation at minute levels. The reading travels over NFC to the app, which shows the sterilization and moisture status — without opening the pack.

Sustainability & journey
Being functional is not enough: it must be viable. That's why what started as a disposable device became a reusable set. The circuit is built on a fiberglass board, with recyclable metals and plastics (class II waste), and the indicators are printed on paper — less waste, less impact.
From the first prototype in 2019 to the patent in 2024, Xterilis was born from the co-creation of a multidisciplinary team: engineers, researchers, developers, sterile processing professionals, physicians and investors. Five years of clinical and field practice to get here.
